She was always very sharp looking. She was married as a young girl to someone named Ira Duryea and he died soon after their marriage of tuberculosis. She remarried Charlie Rooney, who was a gym teacher (in Roosevelt for a while) - he was cute and I remember some of the women telling us they had a crush on him when they were in school. They had two sons: Charlie (Jigger) and Billy. Charlie owned Salvage City off the Expressway and we got a lot of the building material from him to build our house in East Hampton. Charlie is now retired in Florida and Billy and his wife live near Aunt Kathleen in Maryland and they are still in touch. She died of a heart attack when we lived in Boston. |
