Brian Homet said - "One of my earliest Christmas memories was the morning my soon to be step-father arrived with a puppy as his gift to the kids. The little black poodle jumped, rolled, ran and snuggled her way into our hearts. What should we name her? One of my sisters looked up at the angel on top of the Christmas tree and said, "Why don't we call her Angel?" Angel was a part of our family for many Christmases to come." Judy Hart said - "My earliest X-mas memory is in Texas. I remember church was on a wednesday night and we went to church. When we got home Santa had been at our house. We all screamed and ran to our gifts. I remember Daddy standing at the front door with it open and looking up at the sky yelling that He saw Santa in the sky. I ran to the door and looked up and I swear I saw Santa too. FREAKY!"
Katie Aitken said - "My earliest Christmas memory is in Lexington (first house). It was Christmas Eve and everyone was awake except for me and Sarah. I couldn't sleep because I was too excited and Sarah and I kept whispering to eachother, "are you awake?" We kept "sneaking" out of bed and looking out the window because we wanted to sneak a peek at Santa and his reindeer flying through the sky. We think we saw him...it was either him or an airplane...I guess we'll never know. Anyway, I got a doll that year that came with a snugli carrier, clothes, and a bottle. I brought it with me to church the next morning."
David Condon said - "I have some vague memories of Christmas on Sherwood Drive. That is my first recollection of watching Rudolph and Frosty movies. But my first full memories are from the Squires Path house. I remember getting a space shuttle (with lights and sounds and Adventure People)that I had really wanted from Santa Clause and I remember thinking that he must not Really know if we've been bad or good, cause I certainly didn't think I deserved it. I remember wondering if maybe he had made a mistake. The following year Conrad was living with us and I remember he got twice as many gifts as me and I thought he really had not been very good. I figured Santa had gotten all of his lists mixed up or he was grading on a curve."
Sarah Bisher said - "My first christmas memory was the same one as Katie's. I distinctly remember seeing red lights in the sky and we were SURE it was Santa. I also remember we would always get so mad that Jimmy, Caryn, Judy, and David didn't have to go to sleep. Sometimes they would come into our rooms and we would sing christmas carols and I remember (I think it was in Nashville) one year when we heard Santa, Caryn started screaming and almost knocked me down the stairs on our way down."
Susan Condon said - "The first Christmas I remember I was about four years old. I got a Tiny Tears Doll from Santa Claus. You fed her water from her bottle (included) and she either wet or spit tears out of her eyes when she cried. She had curly brown hair like me. I have not ever seen one exactly like that one since. I also remember that year that "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" sung by Gene Autry made its debut. I learned it and sang it constantly. I must have had a cold because everyone thought it was so funny that I sniffed at the appropriate time in the song. After Christmas that year we went to Florida. Everyone down there had me sing "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer", too. My grandfather never called me by my right name after that - I was always Rudolph to him."
Jim Condon, Jr. said - "I still have vague memories of Christmas in Holtsville. One of the funniest Christmas memories I have was in Lubbock. I wanted to get an electric race track and cars badly. A few nights before Christmas, there was some company over the house and all us kids were sleeping. The adults got a bit loud, so I wandered out of bed into the living room. There before me was a race track and cars all set up with the adults having a good time with it. I think I actually believed him when dad assured me it was not my race track - although I ended up getting it for Christmas a few days later."
Caryn Homet said - "The earliest distinct Christmas memory I have is the same as Judy's. We came back from church on a Wednesday night in Lubbock- Daddy pointed to the window and said "There's Santa Clause!" I didn't see him like Judy did, but I believed him. I remember getting a doll from an old man because we were poor. It's amazing how little we got, but how grateful I was."
Blair Bisher said - "My earliest Christmas memory was when I was in 2nd grade, living in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. I remember lying in bed on Christmas eve, and I was having the most difficult time falling asleep, because I was so excited thinking about Santa coming. Then, all of a sudden, I heard a thump, thump, thump on the roof and I went crazy, "It's Santa, It's Santa, It's Santa!!" I had never been more excited in my life!! All of these years staying up late on Christmas Eve to catch Santa, and this was finally the year!! I ran out into the living and there he was... MY DAD?!?! It was my Dad, and he was laughing hysterically, because it turns out, that he had run outside and thrown a football on the roof a couple times to see what kind of reaction he could elicit from my brother and I. Broken hearted, I slinked back to my room, and stayed up as long as I could. Alas, I fell asleep and missed Santa once again, to my immense disappointment. Santa did come, though, apparently much quieter than a football bouncing, and that was exciting enough for me."
David Condon said -" I forgot one earlier memory. It did not happen on Christmas, but it regards Christmas. I remember in Wantagh, taking a walk with Caryn and seeing a little house with a sleigh in the front yard. I must have been around 2 years old. Caryn told me that this was Santa's house and that the sleigh belonged to him. I believed her. For years after that I thought the North Pole story was a cover so that no one would know his real house was on Long Island. Perhaps, there is something to it. Is Santa a Yankee?"
Susan Condon said - "Yes, David - Santa Clause is a Yankee! Think about it - he is from the North Pole. I also remember that sleigh filled with presents that you are talking about - Caryn must have taken you for a walk on Wantagh Avenue - There was a store window that had the sleigh in the window. It was there year round."
