I Like You, You Like Me -- Brothy's Favorite Tracks : "Blues for Fred" and "Aws to the Bone" Brothy's Least Favorite Track : "Cha Cha Cha that's cool" cause Homey kept hogging the mike and you can't hear the cool sound effects Brothy and Locky were making with their didgeradoos. Brothy's Opinion in a Nutshell : As one of the original and founding members of the Spastic Society I guess I am a bit biased to this, there debut album. The later line ups after Handy's first untimely demise in a soho nightclub, didn't have the same charm and "je ne sais que" that was captured in the recording sessions in the back of Jimmy's old Suburu in Nashville Tennessee. Although the recently released extended remix, featuring Handy's illigitimate children Boo and La Quiche, is better mixed and a tad bit more on key. It fails to capture the innocense and angst carried on that original cry for help from sad little Lockatoo and her bewildered siblings. I believe the last line when she cries, "Aren't you surprised I can write this song and still have it rhyme?" says it all. Almost 2 decades later I still want to pull Locky close and say, "yes Princess Babygirl Lockatoo Nockadoor, I am surprised and it will be okay." Interesting Trivia: I Like You, You Like Me was written in the back seat of Jim Jr.'s Suburu while we were searching for a place to live upon arriving back in the States after leaving London in December 1989. Lockatoo wrote the first verse, Homey wrote the second and Brothy wrote the third. Later songs such as Blues for Fred and Aws to the Bone were not as collaborative in nature and eventually the group disbanded and have gone into seclusion where they await the phone call from VH1 for a "Reunion Special" or a "Where Are They Now?" episode. <--[ Take me out of here!] |
