Brothy’s Favorite Lines:
Maude: A lot of people enjoy being dead. But they are not dead, really. They're just backing away from life. Reach out. Take a chance. Get hurt even. But play as well as you can. Go team, go! Give me an L. Give me an I. Give me a V. Give me an E. L-I-V-E. LIVE!
Otherwise, you got nothing to talk about in the locker room.
Harold: You sure have a way with people.
Maude: Well, they’re my species.
Maude (to the traffic cop): Don't get officious. You're not yourself when you're officious - That is the curse of a government job.
Mrs. Chasen: I have here, Harold, the form sent out by the National Computer Dating Service. They screen out the fat and the ugly - so it is obviously of fairly high standards.
Brothy’s Favorite Scene:
When Harold’s Uncle who is in the military tries to recruit him. Harold pretends to be all for it. He dramatically describes how he can’t wait to kill and keep the souvineres of his prey. He produces a shrunken head from his pocket as an example. Maude shows up with a peace sign and they fake a fight. Maude ends up falling into a well. Harold’s Uncle decides that Harold is not military material after all.
Brothy’s Opinion in a Nutshell:
This dark comedy, although risqué at times, touches many issues that we all struggle with in life. Death, love, God, love of neighbor, war, etc. It is funny, sad and deeply profound. It also helps that the entire soundtrack was done by Cat Stevens, who was also good at capturing the problems of the times in witty words.
